I started my “Survivor Series” as a way for me to cope with survivors guilt. It seems all of my friends, both my best friends, and many others I have known have all died, but somehow, even through overdosing, serious car accident, rape, abuse, somehow I lived. That has been hard on me. I have the “what ifs” a lot still. So I decided to write this word over and over as a way for it to have both power and less power. More power as it being a bold powerful word, but also less power over me thinking “I shouldn’t have survived, why did ai and they didn’t?”. Over the years my survivor series has become much more. Hearing people’s stories of what they have or are surviving has resonated with me and now I feel we are all survivors. We are all or have all survived something in our lives. So this series has become for the people as well and for their survival. This piece being only have survival and the other half darkness shows that I may have survived and come out in a better place, but I am still surviving each day, it may get easier, but it’s not over. I feel it may be this way for many people.
